Let’s Talk About Pie!

…no, not the sweet dessert. I'm talking about Post Inflammatory Erythema.

This refers to red marks left on skin, which we commonly see after a breakout.

This redness means there's still some inflammation going on in that pore, and to help that inflammation go down, you can ice the area 1-2x a day after cleansing.

There are also some topical ingredients that help address this redness (such as Beta Glucan, Calendula, Aloe, and Helichrysum). But I'm going to be talking about my new obsession, Tranexamic Acid (TXA).

I've got a new serum that has this amazing ingredient at a high enough percent to facilitate a change in the skin.

Traditionally, TXA has been prescribed orally to help bleeding issues (like really heavy periods) and to address melasma.

As I understand it, TXA can work on the vascular system topically as well, which is great for any unwanted redness you’re seeing in your skin.

According to the article “Adjunctive Treatment for Acne Vulgaris by Tranexamic Acid” TXA has shown to work well on acne, PIE, and PIH (post inflammatory hyperpigmentation- brown spots).

“Topical 10% TXA can reduce inflammatory acne counts effectively since week 4 after

initiating treatment in mild to moderate facial acne. TXA mainly reduced papules and

pustules. Moreover, TXA seemed to reduce the redness of the skin, allowed PIE and PIH to

fade sooner, decreased new PIE and PIH, resulting in more even skin tones.”

Contact me to see if Specktra6’s Serum TXA would be an appropriate addition to your skincare routine!
